Unable To Load Data

I just opened my game today and it said unable to load data. I tried restarting my computer and opening it but it said the same thing. And when it asked me to save it I pressed yes thinking it could help. But now when I look a the file size it's like 100 kb. I sent my bbdoc over to support to see if they can maybe access an older version of the file. I'm just wondering if this has happened to you guys and if there are any ways that I can prevent this. (I'm on Mac os High Sierra) I've worked really hard on this game and I just got a lot done last night. So it will suck if I lose all of my hard work. Hopefully, @Buildbox can work some of their magic and get me going again.

This is normally the message when you open it in an older version of Buildbox. Are you sure you opened it in the correct version you were working on?

 

Yes, 2.3.4. I've had no other versions of BuildBox. I'm worried that because I saved it with no data, it erased all of the data.

 

And it's not like I did anything to corrupt the file. Last night I saved it like I normally do, and closed BB.

 

If your BBDOC file has a size of 100kb, support can not do anything to recover the file.
I recommend using Dropbox or a system that makes continuous copies.

 

That's a bummer. I've been working on this game for a while and I did so much last night. Luckily I do have a backup, but it's an old one. Looks like I'll be working hard tonight to try and get it back up to where it was yesterday. Thanks, @jcalle. Do you know of anything that could automatically save my .bbdoc into multiple places?

 

I use Dropbox, it automatically saves a history of the last 30 days.

Thanks, @jcalle I do use dropbox but made a dumb mistake of not making backups.

 

What jcalle wants to say is that you can save directly into a Dropbox folder which makes then automatically backups. Dropbox comes with a 30 day version history. So you don’t have to do your own backups.

 

I do have a dropbox folder that I save to, but how can I make it so it saves the version history? @Christoph

 

Preview—and restore—older versions of files

1. Sign in to dropbox.com.
2. Select the file you'd like see previous versions of.
3. Right click the file name.
4. Click Version history.
5. Select one of the versions to preview it.
6. To restore to an older version, click the Restore button.

Actually just as a caveat your version history only lasts typically 30 days so be aware of that.

The amount of time Dropbox stores previous versions of your files depends on the plan you have:

• Basic (free): 30 days
• Plus: 30 days
• Professional: 120 days
• Business (Standard, Advanced, Enterprise, or Education): 120 days

 

Ok, thanks. But anyways with dropbox, if the file gets corrupted I should be able to go back to the one from like the day before right? So I am making backups in 3 places, but if I just save it to dropbox should that be fine?

 

Yes exactly. As long as you've been saving along the way you can go back to a previous days version.
