This week’s game spotlight is HopBound by Darius Immanuel Guerrero of AppSir Games. This psychological 16-bit horror platformer built using Buildbox and no-code has been featured worldwide. HopBound has also been ranked Top 100 in 12 different countries and ranked first on the ‘New Games We Love’ section of the app store. This follow-up to Dere Evil .Exe is currently crushing it in the charts!
There are four previous titles for those unfamiliar with the successful horror game series: The Last Yandere, Sorority Rites, Dere .Exe, and Dere Evil .Exe. All of the games were built with our software and have done exceptionally well. Dere Evil .Exe has earned over a million downloads across platforms and a Webby Award nomination alongside AAA console games like 2K’s Borderlands 3. HopBound is the fifth game released in the AppSir horror series. It takes place just two years after the events of Dere Evil .Exe. For many fans, this game has been long-awaited!
So, let’s take a closer look at this new horror platformer …
HopBound
In the game, players are taken deep into the world of Mayumi, a new intern at AppSir Games on a mission to test out their endless runner game called HopBound. However, the task ends up being much more than she bargained for as the ghosts of her past appear to be part of this 16-bit retro game. With her sanity being tested by an ominous presence lurking behind the screen, players must help her play it through to the end.
For fans of the series, you’ll notice characters and enemies from Dere Evil .Exe making special cameo appearances. Some of them have even evolved into bigger and badder meanies. HopBound is a more corrupt version of its predecessor, but you don’t need to play the previous game to follow the story. It’s a complete standalone continuation that’s fast-paced and equally challenging. Your score is determined by the distance you run, and double jumps are allowed. Unfortunately, death is inevitable. There are giant serpents, horrifying creatures, falling platforms, and traps around every corner. You start in the Downtown zone but can unlock other challenging worlds like Uptown, Caverns, and the Gardens.
